David Ormsby Wins WPT Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event

David Ormsby bested the field of the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event after a particularly tough heads-up match against Robert Forbes. Ormsby is known to be a cash game player and he can rarely be seen at tournaments. However, his latest endeavor resulted in a victory and a first-place prize of C$383,407.

The four-day WPT Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event kicked off on February 21. It attracted a field of 423 entries who created a prize pool of C$1,392,324. The top 54 finishers were paid a share of the money.

Day 4 of the Main Event, its final one, saw 6 players returning to play the final table. Six-handed play began with Forbes as the chip leader with a total of 4,015,000 in chips. And the player kept hold of the majority of chips in play almost until the end of the tournament. Ormsby was fourth in chips at the beginning of the day.

The first elimination for the day occurred on Hand #3. Thomas Archer hit the rail in 6th place to collect the amount of C$76,874. Archer was busted by Forbes himself. Soren Turkewitsch was Forbes’ next victim. The player was eliminated in 5th place on Hand #32. His payout from the tournament amounted to C$$95,949.

Mike Bui was the next to leave the final table. He, too, hit the rail after he could not stand a chance against Forbes. Bui took home the amount of C$127,805 for his 4th place in the Main Event. On Hand #131, Forbes eliminated Derek Verrian in 3rd place to set the heads-up match between him and Ormsby. Verrian collected C$172,823 from the tournament.

The heads-up battle between Forbes and Ormsby started with the first holding three times more chips than his opponent. Ormsby needed as many as 24 hands to take the lead and about 10 more to defeat Forbes and capture the title and the first-place prize. Hand #166 turned out to be the last one in play.

Ormsby limped from the button and Forbes moved all in from the big blind for his remaining 2,925,000. Ormsby called and tabled [Kd][Jd] against his opponent’s [3c][3d]. The [Ad][Kh][4s][7c][6s] appeared on the board, giving Ormsby advantage over Forbes and securing him with the title. As for Forbes, he collected C$268,773 for his runner-up finish.
