‘Mobile Will Be Playing Even Bigger Role’ with Haris Malik from Betway

Events & Reports

Haris Malik is yet another industry peer we had the chance to meet during the LAC. Haris is a Casino Operations Manager at Betway and seems to be well-versed on how the industry was, currently is, and will be in the years to come. Although quite busy at the Betway booth, Haris spent a few minutes with Casino News Daily, talking about his brand and other industry-related matters.

Can you, please, introduce yourself?

My name is Haris Malik and I’m Casino Operations Manager at Betway.

How long have you been working for Betway?

I have been here for two and a half years.

And could you tell us a little more about your brand?

Launched in 2006, Betway has always aimed at providing first-class entertainment across casino, sports betting, bingo, poker and e-sports. Coupled with licenses covering multiple territories, we aim to provide the best possible gaming experience to our users.

You said you operate in the UK. The Point of Consumption tax, targeting overseas gambling operators that provide their services within the UK, came into effect towards the end of December 2014. How did it affect your business?

Same as everyone else. It has moved the goalposts for all operators so we are all in the same boat.

Also as is the case of any form of taxation, compliance, or regulatory concern, we aim to adapt our business to ensure that the customers are not affected in any adverse way and that they continue to get the best service from us.

Have you been at the LAC before?

Yes, I’ve been here multiple times.

In what way events like this help your business?

LAC is a great event because it enables us to connect with existing partners and also meet new ones like yourself. While it may not always be possible to meet every affiliate due to geographical distances, an event like this provides a good platform to meet partners, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships in a comfortable environment.

And our last question. Where do you see the industry in five years from now?

The industry will no doubt be more competitive in the next five years. The sheer increase of operators at every LAC is a testament to the fact that more and more people are jumping on the gambling bandwagon.

How many will survive in the face of tough regulations is anyone’s guess.

We have also seen mobile play a significant role with operators now attributing a good chunk of their traffic to this channel. Therefore I foresee mobile playing an even bigger role in the coming few years.
