The WSOP Circuit’s twelfth season is coming to a close with only four remaining stops waiting to be completed. This year, the season’s end will be celebrated with the 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship for the very first time ever. The tournament will run from August 9-11 and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina will play host to it. The venue hosted last year’s WSOP National Championship.
The 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship will be an official gold bracelet event and will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. Formerly known as the WSOP National Championship, this year, for the first time ever, the tournament will welcome entries from the WSOP International Circuit festivals that took place throughout the season.
As usual, as many as 100 players have won free seats into the Championship event – the Main Event winners at the nineteen 2015/16 WSOP Circuit stops as well as the Casino Champions at each of those. In addition, twelve more qualifiers earned their seats for winning the Main Events or becoming Casino Champions at each of the six WSOP International Circuit stops. The remaining automatic qualifiers would be filled out from this season’s Circuit points leaderboard.
As in previous years, the players taking the top 100 positions in the WSOP world rankings will be able to buy $10,000 seats into the Global Casino Championship. Here it is important to note that the rankings are based on the players’ performance in WSOP bracelet tournaments in 2014 and 2015. What is more, for the first time ever, all players who captured gold rings throughout the 2015/16 season will also be allowed to buy a seat into the Championship.
The $10,000 paid by all non-automatic entries into the Global Casino Championship will be added to the guaranteed prize pool. The WSOP said that the final list of WSOP Global Casino Championship entries would likely include up to 200 names, which means that the eventual prize pool may end up to $2 million.
The tournament will kick off on August 9, with the final table scheduled to take place on August 11. The 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship will be televised.
The 2015/16 WSOP Circuit Tour started on August 6, 2015 and is set to be completed on May 23, 2016. The next season will begin on August 4 at Harrah’s Cherokee, with the 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship being the highlight of the poker festival.
