Only a few days after he topped the field of the EPT Season 12 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller, German poker pro Ole Schemion had the chance to take down another high roller tournament on the schedule of this year’s EPT Grand Final festival. Eventually, the player finished runner-up to fellow countryman Fabian Quoss in the €50,000 Single-Day High Roller. As for Quoss, he collected €848,059 and the tournament trophy.
The one-day tournament attracted a total of 70 entries, with some of the world’s most popular high roller players being among those. The overall prize pool amounted to €3,395,700. The top 9 players received a share with the lowest payout totaling €98,480.
Italian poker pro Mustapha Kanit won the event last season. This year, the player was among the eight players to enter it twice. However, he could not make it to the money. In fact, of all eight re-entries, it was only German Fedor Holz who cashed in the high roller tournament. Max Silver turned out to be the bubble boy, after he could not hold up against Holz himself.
Steve O’Dwyer was the player to be eliminated in 9th place. As mentioned above, his share of the money totaled €98,480. David Peters was the next to leave the tournament. He collected the amount of €129,050.
Michael Bonzon took 7th place in the tournament for a payout of €166,400. Mikita Badziakouski left in 6th place, scooping a €210,530 share of the prize pool. Fedor Holz, who recently has won a number of high roller tournaments over the past year, took 5th place in the €50,000 Single-Day High Roller, good for €271,670.
Murad Akhundov was eliminated in 4th place for €349,760. He was followed by Aidyn Auyezkanov. The latter took home the amount of €463,510.
Thus, Quoss and Schemion were the only two finalists left at the table for an all-German heads-up match. Two-handed play started with Quoss holding 9.66 million in chips against his fellow countryman’s 4.34 million. Shortly after, the players switched places and Schemion took the lead.
Although the event was scheduled as a single-day one, it took two days of play for the name of the champion to become clear. At a certain point on the second day of play, the two remaining finalists agreed to chop the prize pool according to their chip counts and to play for €50,000 and the tournament trophy. Under the deal, Schemion was to take €857,241 and Quoss would collect €799,059.
On the very last hand of play, Schemion moved all in for his 4.8 million and Quoss snap-called. Schemion turned [Kc][5c] against his opponent’s [Ad][Qs]. The board ran out [As][4h][8d][Qc][3s], which meant that Quoss would be crowned the EPT Season 12 Grand Final €50,000 Single-Day Super High Roller.
Including his latest victory, Quoss now has $9,511,045 in live tournament earnings. Most recently, the player topped the field of the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$100,000 Challenge for A$1,446,480.
