More than 500 players were eager to take part in the competition and eventually become winners. However, one particular player drew the attention of fans and poker experts who happened to visit the venue during the tournament.
Kevin Boudreau, also known as “Phwap”, will definitely remember the tournament as being exciting and eventful. The player lives in Colorado Springs and the Mid-States Poker Tour was the first event he took part in after he felt himself again. He has recently recovered from a severe disease, which he was trying to overcome for an year.
Boudreau is famous for being a prominent and experienced cash game player. He was ranked second at WSOP, he is also a member of Ship It Holla Ballas. Unfortunately, he was befallen by a serious disease, which caused severe bleeding and was placed in an induced coma.
His condition was defined as a really serious one and caused him difficulties in breathing and issues with the connection between veins and arteries. A great number of poker players became really concerned about his condition and the family of the poker pro decided to found “Kevin ‘Phwap’ Boudreau — Recovery Fundraiser” – an organization that gained significant popularity. A lot of poker players as well as Boudreau’s friends and relatives hurried up to make a donation.
Although the founders set a goal of $50 000 to be raised, they managed to raise $35 000.
Luckily, during the summer of 2013, Boudreau started to improve, responded to verbal commands and spent more and more time awake.
He continued to show signs of improvement and last December he went home where he could concentrate on his recovery.
Needless to say, Boudreau started working on his poker strategy and a few months later, he took part in WSOP 2014. In the middle of June, Boudreau participated in a sit-n-go together with his father and his friends when he was ranked at third place.
Actually, Boudreau had made a deal with his father that if he won the sit-n-go tournament he would be allowed to take part in a multi-table tournament. As mentioned above, he finished third, which postponed his participation in the event.
However, another opportunity arose and Boudreau had no hesitations in taking it. He participated in the tournament that took place at Golden Gates and all those who have witnessed his great performance, were impressed.
