The 2016 edition of the Spring Championship of Online Poker is nearing its end. What is known to be one of the largest online poker festivals kicked off on May 8 and will run through May 23. This year, the total amount of $40 million will be distributed to those who have demonstrated the best performance over the course of the championship.
A lot has happened so far and one of the most recent highlights was that Canadian poker professional Shawn “buck21” Buchanan captured his fourth and fifth SCOOP titles within an extremely short period of time. First, the player bested the field of the SCOOP-14-H: $2,100 NL Omaha Hi/Lo [6-Max, Turbo, Zoom]
with a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000, scooping a $82,160 payout for his performance. Buchanan emerged victorious over as many as 158 opponents
Next, he won the SCOOP-24-M: $2,100 NL Hold’em [8-Max, High-Roller], again with a guaranteed $300,000 prize pool. This time, the player collected $270,125 for being the last man standing. The player bested a field of 825 entries. Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, known to be one of the best online poker players, was among those who made it to the final table of the event. The player was eliminated in 6th place for $57,750.
With five SCOOP titles and several first places in online poker championships, it certainly could be said that Buchanan has been doing good on the online circuit. However, the player is equally successful on the live poker scene. So far, he has collected a little less than $6 million in live tournament winnings and among other titles, he boasts a WPT Main Event one.
In 2007, the Canadian topped the field of the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship $10,000 Championship event, taking home $768,775. Another notable achievement was his triumph in the 2012 PCA $10,200 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max High Roller. Buchanan received $202,360 for his victory. In other words, over the course of the past several years, the player has kept himself busy, winning and cashing in a number of prestigious live events, in addition to claiming several online poker titles.
