The $3,250 High Roller is the highest buy-in event to be part of the Harrah’s New Orleans poker festival. And the gambling venue is the last stop on this season’s WSOP Circuit schedule.
Landreth won his first Circuit gold ring early in 2015 for emerging victorious in the 2014/15 WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Tunica $1,675 Main Event. Apart from the non-monetary prize, he also took home the total amount of $147,388. Overall, the player has cashed in 9 Circuit series events since the beginning of his poker career and has collected more than $250,000 in those, including last night’s payout.
The $3,250 High Roller was a two-day event that attracted 98 entries, among which former November Niners, gold bracelet gold ring winners, and other renowned poker professionals. By the end of Day 1 of the tournament, there were 32 players left. Gold bracelet holders Cord Garcia, who won the inaugural WSOP Colossus event last year, and Philip Hui were among those who could not make it to Day 2. Yet, as mentioned above, the event’s final day was not short of big poker names to be seating at the poker tables at Harrah’s New Orleans.
Overall, the 98 entries generated the amount of $294,000. The top 12 finishers received a payout, with the lowest one totaling $6,142. Action on the final table stage was really slow, especially at the time when there were only three survivors left. Three-handed play started with the eventual champion as the short stack. In fact, the player kept himself low-stacked for the greater part of the tournament.
Once Jeffrey Bromberger was eliminated in 3rd place, Landreth did not need much time to finish off his only remaining opponent and to capture the first-place prize and the gold ring. The player faced former gold ring winner Timothy Miles heads-up.
On what turned out to be the final hand for the tournament, Miles raised from the button and his opponent called. The [Kd][9s][5c] came on the flop and Landreth checked. Miles raised to 80,000 and his opponent check-raised to 200,000. Miles called after giving it a thought.
The [3s] came on the river and Landreth bet 200,000. Miles shoved and his opponent snap-called. Miles turned [Ks][Qc] against Landreth’s [9h][5h]. The [10s] came on the river and was of no help to both players. Thus, Landreth took down the event and Miles collected $54,513 for finishing runner-up.
Jeffrey Bromberger received $38,814 for his third-place finish. Michael Andrews finished 4th for $28,195. Larry Wright collected a $20,886 share of the money for taking 5th place. Joe Kuether scooped $15,767 for finishing 6th.
Jeffrey Trudeau took 7th place, good for $12,128. Ken Fishman finished 8th for $9,499. John Dolan received $7,573 for finishing 9th.
