News

Gambling company Betway Group has become the latest operator to go live in Ghana. Gambling customers from the country are now able to place their bets online on the .gh version of the operator’s website and across all devices.

Earlier this month, Betway has launched a new platform in Ghana, allowing bettors to wager on upcoming fixtures no matter whenever they want to and wherever they are. Thus, the gambling operator has made it possible for customers to place their bets without having to go to a betting shop. The only thing they need to do now is to create an account with the company’s website.

Betway has said that it was its main goal to simplify the betting experience for bettors from Ghana who would like to wager on upcoming football matches, both international and local ones.

Betting on football is particularly popular in Ghana. At present, there are 15 gambling operators to be providing wagering options within the country’s borders. They are licensed and regulated by the Ghana Gaming Commission.

For years, lotteries were the most popular games of chance among gambling customers from Ghana. However, over the past several years, sports betting has taken over and is at present the most popular gambling activity among residents of the country.

Last year, the gambling industry in Africa had its biggest full-year growth in gross gambling revenue. Proceeds from bingo operations were up the impressive 86%. Revenue from sports betting increased 19.3% as compared to the figure posted for the previous calendar year. Last but not least, casino games generated 10.5% in 2015 as compared to what was generated the year before.

Gambling trends across Africa corresponds to the global trend that shows that land-based wagering is still the most popular form of real money gaming. According to recent data, online gambling currently accounts for 30% of the overall global position. And the trend is expected to be maintained in 2016, as well. Yet, although land-based gaming is still dominating the global gambling scene, Internet real money gaming and sports betting is growing at an extremely rapid pace.
