Day 5 of the 2016 WSOP $10,000 Main Event is history with only 80 hopefuls still in contention for the first-place prize of $8 million and a gold bracelet hand-crafted specially for the tournament’s champion. Jerry Wong from Brooklyn, New York took the lead half an hour before the end of the day and bagged up for the night as the chip leader. The player will begin Day 6 with 11,555,000.

Wong eliminated start-of-the-day chip leader Bryan Piccioli in order to accumulate the biggest stack among his remaining opponents. In fact, he maintained a good stack for the whole day. This will be Wong’s 20th WSOP cash. The player has won a total of $118,156 in WSOP winnings but has not captured a gold bracelet so far.

The 80 survivors left are set to return to the Amazon poker room at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino at noon today. They will have to play five two-hour levels. They are all guaranteed a minimum cash of $80,721 upon leaving.

Kenny Hallaert, who started Day 4 of the Main Event as a chip leader, is also among the Day 5 survivors. The player eliminated former Main Event winner Greg Raymer. Along with him and Wong, Jan Suchanek, Griffin Benger, and Joshua Weiss are the other players to comprise top five of the chip counts chart.

Gaelle Baumann, the last female player standing, was eliminated throughout Day 5 of this year’s WSOP Main Event. In 2012, the player almost become one of the November Niners but left the tournament in 10th place.

There are no former Main Event champions left among the 80 survivors. Johnny Chan, who won the tournament in 1987/88, a feat that has not been repeated since then, and 2004 winner Greg Raymer were both eliminated during Day 5.

Paul Volpe, Max Silver, and Tom Marchese will be among the recognizable players that will be seen at the Rio poker tables. As mentioned above, cards will be thrown in the air at noon local time for what will be Day 6 of the major tournament. The remaining survivors will be playing five more levels.
