Online gambling operator Unibet Group plc today posted information about its financial performance during the quarter ended June 30, 2016 and the first half of the year. Quarterly gross winnings revenue totaled £126.6 million, up from the amount of £80.5 million reported for the same quarter of the previous year.
Unibet pointed out that its most recent acquisitions – iGame Group and Stan James Online, contributed £14.7 million to the overall revenue for the second quarter of the year.
As a result from the UEFA Euro 2016, the gambling company reported a record high in customer activity, which in turn resulted in continued growth. However, Unibet noted that tournament margins were higher in July than in June and that if they had been consistent throughout the whole tournament, gross winnings revenue would have been about £3 million higher.
Quarterly gross winnings revenue increased 48% in the Nordics and 71% in Western Europe as compared to the results posted for the relevant regions during the same period of 2015.
Gross winnings revenue from mobile accounted for 63% of the overall figure reported for the second quarter of the year and more than doubled during the said period.
Gross winnings revenue for the six months ended June 30 amounted to £249 million. In comparison, the group generated a total of £156.6 million during the first half of 2015.
Underlying EBITDA increased to £22 million during the second quarter of the year from £19 million reported for the same three months of the previous year. Half-year EBITDA totaled £50.5 million, up from the £34.1 million generated during the six months ended June 30, 2015.
Unibet generated quarterly profit before tax of £15.4 million, up from £15.2 million from last year. Profit before tax for the first half of 2016 amounted to £37.9 million compared to £26.5 million posted for the same period a year ago.
Profit after tax for this year’s second quarter totaled £13.5 million, up from 13.4 million from the previous year. Profit after tax for the six months ended June 30 was £33.5 million compared to £23.4 million for the first half of 2015.
During the second quarter, the gambling operator generated free cash flow of £21.4 million, reflecting an increase from the amount of £11.3 million posted for the same period of 2015. Half-year free cash flow amounted to £47 million. In comparison, a total of £25 million was generated during the first half of the previous year.
There were 1,132,840 active customers registered with Unibet during the second quarter of the year, compared to a total of 603,528 players in the prior-year period. Of these, as many as 216,515 were gambling customers of iGame Group and Stan James Online.
