Event #6 Pot-Limit Omaha (1 Re-Entry) kicked off on August 8th and attracted a total of 247 entrants who accumulated a prize pool of $74,100. At the end, it was Mike Leah who triumphed and won the third Circuit ring in his career as well as the amount of $18,156 for his first place.
Leah has a solid experience in taking part in poker tournaments. His WSOP and Circuit earnings amount to more than $1,400,000. Before being awarded the Circuit ring in Pot-Limit Omaha (1 Re-Entry), he won a WSOP bracelet as well.
Initially, Leah was planning to take part in the Global Casino Championship, that kicked off on August 9th at Harrah’s Cherokee. However, he changed his mind and decided to travel to North Carolina a few days earlier and participate in a preliminary Circuit event.
Right after the tournament, the lucky winner shared that he busted the six max event and was hesitating as to whether to take part in the Pot-Limit Omaha event because if he survived Day 1, he would miss the Global Casino Championship – the main reason why he travelled to North Carolina.
Then, he considered the event a nice opportunity for participating in a tourney different from No-Limit Hold-em.
The action on the final table unfolded really fast, but the elimination of David Johnson gave the start of a lengthy heads-up play between Terry Kim and Mike Leah. They took turns swapping the chip lead all the time. Then, Leah “coolered” Kim when the flop came. His opponent flopped two pair holding [9x][6x]. Leah’s flop of a set of twos made Kim call a check raise on the flop. Then, Kim got additional flush outs. Both got all in and Mike Leah held.
The winner shared that if he had lost, he would have gone to dinner. He went on to say that the feeling of having won the event was amazing. Plus, he got the chance to participate in the Casino Championship event.
Some of the other notable players who made it to the money bubble were Terry Kim who got $11,217 for his runner-up finish, David Johnson who pocketed $8,104 for his third place and Jovanny Ruiz who finished fourth and collected $5,964 of the accumulated prize pool. Scott Cooper, George Linkenback, Zachary Caldwell occupied the 5th, 6th and 7th position, respectively.
