News

The Senet Group, a British independent body focused on the promotion of socially responsible gambling standards, announced the appointment of George Kidd as its new Chief Executive, effective as of August 15, 2016.

Mr. Kidd has held a number of regulatory roles over the past several years, with some of those being Chief Commissioner and Chair of UK’s Direct Marketing Commission, Chair of the Preference Service Working Group, Council Member Non-Executive Director at the Council for Licensed Conveyancers, etc. He has also been Chief Executive Officer of the Online Dating Association over the past three years.

Over the period between April 2000 and October 2008, Mr. Kidd served as Chief Executive of PhonepayPlus. Back in the 1990s, the new Senet Group Chief Executive was with the Foreign Offices as British Consul in Chicago and was responsible for promoting UK to US businesses across 20 Central and Southern states. Understanding the policy and philosophy of existing regulations and compliance with existing regulations are among Mr. Kidd’s specialties.

Commenting on his appointment, Senet Group Chairwoman Wanda Goldwag said that they are delighted to welcome a person with such an extensive background in both regulation and self-regulation.

Of his appointment, Mr. Kidd himself said that he is happy to be joining the independent body. The new Senet Group Chief Executive pointed out that the gambling sector seems to be taking the social responsibility issue seriously and that its efforts to address the problem across advertising, including its support for Senet Group’s own advertising campaigns, have already shown certain results.

Mr. Kidd also expressed confidence that the independent body will keep on playing an important role in the sector, one based on strong relationships with other concerned bodies within the gambling industry as well as other Senet Group stakeholders.

As already mentioned, the Senet Group is primarily concerned with the promotion of socially responsible gambling practices and the prevention or minimization of gambling-related harm. Over the past year, the independent body has invested substantial amounts of money and efforts in the creation of TV advertising campaigns related to problem gambling and its long-term prevention.
