PokerStars Moves Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament to New Jersey

PokerStars will once again honor the late Chad Brown with a charity poker tournament. The third Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament will take place on November 3 at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City as part of the poker room’s debut on New Jersey soil.

Brown had an illustrious poker career spanning for more than 20 years. The player had over $3.6 million in live tournament winnings, collected from more than a hundred live events. Brown was particularly active in WSOP and WSOP Circuit events. He made it to a number of televised final tables in both series. Brown was also a prolific online player.

In 2011, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and tried to win his battle with the terrible disease for the next three years. However, it was much stronger than him. The player eventually lost his battle in 2014. Brown received an honorary WSOP gold bracelet for his performance in the popular poker series hours before he passed away. Thus, he became the only honorary holder of the piece of jewelry that many consider the most coveted non-monetary prize in poker.

As a PokerStars Team Pro member, the online poker room felt devastated for the untimely loss of one of its own and decided to honor Brown with an annual charity poker tournament. The event’s previous two editions were held in Las Vegas. This year, PokerStars has changed its location to Atlantic City. As mentioned above, the Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament will take place on November 3 as part of the inaugural PokerStars Festival – New Jersey.

The event will be a $200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em one. Half of the buy-in fee will go to the T.J. Martell Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports groundbreaking research for leukaemia, cancer, and AIDS. Brown himself held the charity dear and contributed funds to back its activities.

The other half of the buy-in will go directly to the prize pool. Players will be able to re-buy into the tournament for the first six levels. Half of the re-buys will, too, go to the charity. The host venue announced that it would contribute the amount of $3,500 for the good cause.

Last year’s memorial tournament collected more than $80,000 for the T.J. Martell Foundation. The event was hosted by poker pro Maria Ho. This year’s edition will be hosted by another big name in the poker community – Daniel Negreanu.

Entries will contend for attractive prizes like seats into a number of prestigious tournaments, including the PokerStars Championship Bahamas $5,000 Main Event, the Players Poker Championship Aruba $3,200 Main Event, and different WPT500 events, as well as a Poker Academy training by Rick Fuller and Rep Porter, a Gorilla Gaming-designed poker table, and many more.

The PokerStars Festival – New Jersey will take place from November 1 through November 5 and will feature five events with buy-ins of between $1,000 and $5,000.
