The Master Classics of Poker festival kicked off at Holland Casino Amsterdam on November 12 and is scheduled to run through November 26. This year the tournament series is celebrating its 25th anniversary and, among other things, organizers have decided to mark it with the addition of the €25,000 buy-in event to the festival’s schedule. Here it is interesting to note that the Super High Roller tournament was the highest buy-in event to have ever taken place in the Netherlands.
It attracted 13 entries, with UK’s Charlie Carrel being the only player to take advantage of the late registration option. The overall prize pool amounted to €321,750 and was distributed to the top three finishers.
Schemion started the event’s second day third in chips but quickly gained momentum and emerged as the chip leader. The Day 2 field was quickly whittled down to just two players – Schemion and fellow countryman Frank Williams. The eventual winner started the heads-up match with a 3-to-1 chip advantage. The final two-handed battle did not last long as Schemion gave his opponent little chance to move ahead. The young German clinched the victory after his [Kd][Kc] clashed against and beat Williams’ [As][Jh].
Williams scooped €96,525 for his 2nd place in the tournament. Charlie Carrel finished 3rd to collect €64,350.
Schemion is no stranger to Holland Casino and the MCOP festival. The player actually won the 2012 MCOP Amsterdam €5,250 Main Event for a first-place prize of €286,200.
The young German currently stands 2nd in his country’s all-time money list, with poker wunderkind Fedor Holz being the only player ahead of him in the chart. He has won more than $11.2 million in live tournament earnings, a serious portion of which has been scooped for his victories and in-the-money finishes in high roller events.
Earlier this year, Schemion emerged triumphant in the EPT Season 12 Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller for his career biggest cash of €1,597,800. In 2014, the player topped the field of a $100,000 Super High Roller tournament at Aria Resort and Casino for $1,062,785. Over the years, he has cashed in and has won a number of other high roller and non-high roller events.
