Greek player geob000 became the newest PokerStars Sunday Million champion after terrific performance on Sunday afternoon. The player raked in $149,332.51 for winning the largest weekly online tournament for the very first time.

Sunday play kicked off at 2:00 pm ET. By the time registration was closed, there were 5,249 entries to have paid the $215 buy-in fee to take part in the event’s latest edition. A prize pool of $1,049,800 was generated as a result, with the money being split among the top 728 performers.

It took around four hours of play before the nine-handed final table was reached. The nine remaining hopefuls were gathered at the final table with geob000 holding a commanding chip lead over the rest. The Greek player had a total of 16,189,494 in chips and was well ahead of the player ranking second in the chips count chart. That second player, nicknamed tonyfellone, had 6,526,616 at the beginning of final table play.

Poker is a game of great unpredictability. It can sometimes take hours and hours for a Sunday Million final table to be whittled down to a winner. Yesterday’s edition of the event was a different case. Taking full advantage of his momentum, geob000 reduced the remaining field to just him for a little less than an hour. The player eliminated the greater portion of the finalists to never let go of the chip lead.

Eventually, it was him and Russia’s BARBARVSSA2 to have survived through the wild ride the final table had been. Geob000 held more than two times more chips than his final opponent at the time heads-up began. Two-handed match lasted for no more than 10 minutes, during which BARBARVSSA2 managed to reduce the chip deficit only to lose momentum yet again and end up in second place for $104,794.60.

The final hand saw the Russian limp on the button and geob000 checked from the big blind. The board ran out [9d][Qc][7d] on the flop. Geob000 checked and called a 2.8-million bet from BARBARVSSA2. The [As] appeared on the turn to be checked by both players. The [7h] ran out on the river to see geob000 bet 8.6 million, putting his opponent all-in. The Russian had the [Qh][6h] for two pair. However, geob000 turned over the [Ac][9c] for a better hand, scooping the final pot and the title.
