Danish poker pro Gus Hansen will emerge from the shadows to participate in the upcoming Celebrity Cash Kings, a televised cash game festival to be held at King’s Casino Rozvadov this weekend and early next week.
The player has not been seen much of over the past several years. He has presumably avoided the limelight after enduring huge money losses by playing online on Full Tilt and PokerStars. Hansen’s extravagant gambling habits have reportedly cost him more than $20 million.
Despite his online poker trials, the Danish player has generally been recognized as one of poker’s great. He has won three WPT Main Events titles over the course of his career, a deed accomplished by very few others. With live tournament winnings of more than $10.2 million, Hansen is his home country’s second most profitable player of all time; Peter Eastgate being the most profitable one. However, Hansen has not cashed in live tournaments since 2014.
The Great Dane, a nickname he is known by, was seen at Las Vegas poker tables last summer, but overall he has been keeping a low profile. His participation in Celebrity Cash Kings will be his first official poker-related public appearance for quite some time now.
The televised cash game festival will be held as part of the larger WSOP International Circuit festival currently being held at King’s Casino in Rozvadov. The Czech village has over the years become a favorite destination to anyone looking for quality poker action.
The Celebrity Cash Kings event will be hosted over three days starting Sunday, April 2. Playing sessions will kick off at 5:30 pm local time. Broadcasts will begin from 6:00 pm with a 30-minute delay. Participants will play No-Limit Hold’em cash games on Sunday with minimum stakes set at 50/100. The Monday and Tuesday sessions will feature Pot-Limit Omaha with the same minimum stakes.
Lithuanian poker pro, businessman, and politician Antanas Guoga, better known as Tony G in the poker community, will also take part in the upcoming cash game festival. Guoga has recently made headlines by becoming yet another member of the European Parliament to be banned from Russia. Eleven other MEPs have been blacklisted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to an official statement, Tony G’s transgression involved his “speaking up for freedom and democracy.” The player has devoted most of his time to his political career, but he certainly has the qualities needed to cause quite a stir at a poker table and he will certainly use them during the cash games this weekend.
UK poker star Sam Trickett, King’s Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik, Ronny Kaiser, Theo Jorgensen, and Jesper Hougaard have been few of the others to have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Celebrity Cash Kings.
