According to the information, released by representatives of Trump Entertainment Resorts, the newest hotel tower will be closed as a part of the preparation procedures, concerning the closure of the last remaining casino owned by the company – Taj Mahal. It is supposed to close doors for players and guests on Dec.12th.
A few days ago, managers of Trump Entertainment Resorts filled a petition and submitted it to the officials of the Division of Gaming Enforcement. According to the information the petition contained managers asked for official permission to close the casino.
They publicly announced the requests they made towards the Division of Gaming Enforcement and said that they are going to take actions on the very same day when the announcement took place.
They informed the communities that the Chairman Tower was about to be closed. In addition, the procedures, concerning the credit issuance, were supposed to be halted as well.
Although representatives of Trump Entertainment Resorts notified the public about the upcoming closure, they were reluctant to answer questions and give further explanation about the complicated situation.
Trump Entertainment had a lot of troubles with saving Taj Mahal from bankruptcy and preventing more than 3,000 people from becoming unemployed. However, all talks turned out to be fruitless. Health insurance and health benefits of workers were cut down, which caused howls of protests and disagreements.
Then, the company came up with an alternative and offered to continue paying health care expenses of the employees for the next two years and to reconsider its decision about the pension plans.
After all setbacks, it seems like Taj Mahal will be bought by the billionaire Carl Icahn. He is believed to turn company’s debt into ownership and save the casino from closure. However, Icahn has his own requirements, including a tax relief. His request was revoked by the New Jersey’s authorities, though.
Having said that, company’s spokesperson announced that the talks between Trump Entertainment Resorts and New Jersey’s officials have reached a new stage but no additional details were revealed.
According to the information, the petition contained, Taj Mahal is going to close on Dec.12th at 5:59 am. The main casino cage will be open until 8 am so the players can cash out their winnings. All the other transactions, including marker redemptions and slot tickets, can be made until Jan.12th 2015.
The last guests of the hotel will be supposed to check out by noon on Dec.12th. Visitors will be allowed to keep their cars in the garage of the hotel until 5 pm on the same date.
The petition also contained information about the restaurants and bars owned by Trump Entertainment Resorts. Managers have already requested the employees to present “wind-down plans”.
Donald Trump used to be the owner of Taj Mahal but currently, he holds only 10% of company’s shares.
