Day 4 of the 2018 WSOP Main Event began with 1,182 players in contention for the first-place prize and the accompanying gold bracelet. After 13 hours of play, the start-of-the-day field was reduced to just 310 players.
The remaining survivors will be lead into Day 5 by US poker pro Barry Hutter who bagged and tagged 5.597 million in chips last night. The player was the first to pass the four-million mark on Day 4 and he never really lost momentum as play progressed into the night.
Hutter has one gold bracelet from the WSOP and has earned more than $1 million from the series. Most recently, the player finished runner-up to Diogo Veiga in the WSOP Big Blind Antes $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, good for $323,019 in prize money. Overall, Hutter has more than $4.3 million in live tournament earnings.
Alexander Haro scooped the second largest stack of the night with 5.031 million. Brian Altman, another American notable, rounded out the podium last night with 4.861 million. It was actually Altman who was responsible for the elimination of Phil Ivey midway through Day 4. Ivey came into this year’s Main Event after spending several years away from the tournament field.
On what turned out to be the poker celebrity’s last hand in the tournament, Altman successfully read his bluff to win the pot and send his prominent fellow player to the rail.
Other Notables Who Busted on Day 4
Former WSOP Main Event champs Johnny Chan and Jonathan Duhamel were among those to leave on Day 4. Their elimination meant that Joe Cada, who scooped the World Championship title in 2009, has remained the only former winner still in contention for this year’s first-place prize and gold bracelet.
Other notables who fell included Patrik Antonius, who made a Main Event comeback after skipping the tournament the past several years, Kristen Bicknell, Jamie Kerstetter, and Scott Clements among others.
However, there are plenty of renowned players still in the mix for the title, with some of those being Kelly Minkin, Benjamin Pollak, who finished third in last year’s edition of the World Championship, James Obst, and Brian Yoon, among others.
Play is set to resume today at 11 am local time at the host venue, Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. As mentioned above, there will be 310 players who will progress into the day. They are all guaranteed a minimum cash of $37,705 from the tournament.
This year’s edition of the world’s most popular and most prestigious No-Limit Hold’em tournament attracted 7,874 entries. They created a prize pool of $74,015,600 that was split into payouts for the top 1,182 finishers. Min-cashes are worth $15,000 and the winner will be awarded $8.8 million. The money bubble burst at the end of Day 3.
