Ropert satellited into the €25K tournament to eventually take it down for his largest cash from a live poker tournament

France’s Corentin Ropert won over the weekend a €25,000 Single Day High Roller at the ongoing EPT Prague for his career’s largest cash of €277,560, the spade-shaped trophy, and the prestige that accompanies an EPT high roller winner.

The player entering the €25,000 event was a somewhat unusual experience for him. Ropert usually plays tournaments worth no more than €2,000, but decided to try something different this time around.

Ropert’s poker journey in Prague, where the latest EPT festival of the year is currently taking place and is just a day away from wrapping up, did not start well. The player had a somewhat lousy run during the festival’s first stages and as it progressed, he lost a lot of his motivation to play.

Then, he read about Thomas Boivin, the Belgian player who won the €25,000 Single Day High Roller that took place this past Thursday. Boivin satellited into the high roller tournament to eventually take it down and collect €375,520. That was the second-ever €25,000 event the Belgian has ever played.

Reading about his fellow player, Ropert thought to himself, perhaps I can do that too? The player won a seat into the €25K High Roller through a satellite to outlast its field of seasoned high rollers and grab the lion’s share of the prize pool.

Ropert’s Ride to Victory

The Single Day High Roller took place on Saturday at the host venue, Hilton Prague Hotel. The tournament drew 34 entries, including 5 re-entries, to create a prize pool of €816,340. The top six finishers received a share of the prize pool, min-cashes starting from €57,140.

Moldova’s Pavel Plesuv, Germany’s Dietrich Fast, and Australia’s Michael Addamo, all seasoned poker pros, were among those to make it to the paid positions.

Ropert eventually faced Japanese player Tsugunari Toma heads-up. A winning hand of [Ah][5h] locked up the victory for Ropert. As for Toma, he had to settle for the €191,840 as a consolation prize for his deep run into the event.

Ropert’s first-place prize from the High Roller event represented the player’s largest cash from a live tournament. His HendonMob profile shows that he has cashed in 18 events over the course of his career, but none of those cashes came even close to the €277,560 payday he received in Prague over the weekend.

Back in October, Ropert won a €1,000 buy-in All Poker Open Divonne les Bains event for a first-place prize of €30,336. He cashed in one more event earlier this year. The player finished fourth in the Winamax SISMIX Marrakech Main Event, good for a cash prize of $38,206. Including last night’s payout, Ropert now has more than $530,000 in live tournament earnings.
