Rob Goldstein Is Las Vegas Sands’ New President

Rob GoldsteinLast week, Las Vegas Sands Corp., a Neveda-based casino and resort operator, announced the appointment of Rob Goldstein, the company’s longtime executive, as its chief operating officer and president. He is to replace Mike Leven, who is about to retire.

Goldstein has been working for the casino operator for almost twenty years. He took various executive positions during that period. For instance, he was president of two of the company’s most popular hotel and casino venues – The Venetian and The Palazzo. Both are located on the Las Vegas Strip. Goldstein has recently been president of Las Vegas Sands’ worldwide gaming operations.

Currently, Sheldon Adelson, who is a chairman of the company and its chief executive.

Goldstein released a statement in which he shared he was extremely happy that twenty years ago, he was given the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced entrepreneurs in the world. He pointed out that the company’s success is “a testament to Sheldon Adelson’s vision and determination” and the professionalism of its 50,000 employees.

Leven will give up his position in the end of 2014. He has been president and COO of Las Vegas Sands since 2009.

As for Goldstein, he has been in charge of the company’s international businesses in Asian gambling hubs Singapore and Macau. There, the operator generates about 80% of its annual turnover. Back in 2013, it amounted to the impressive $13.77 billion.

Goldstein shared that he will follow Sheldon’s example and he will do his best to meet the expectations of the company’s board of directors and managing team. He also pointed out that Las Vegas Sands will look for opportunities to expand its business worldwide.

Currently, the corporation is building a Paris-themed resort in Macau that is scheduled to open in 2016. The project has been estimated to cost approximately $2.7 billion. There, Las Vegas Sands also manages three hotel casinos and a luxurious resort.

According to Adelson, Goldstein’s long experience in the company makes him perfectly suitable for his new position. The gambling operator’s CEO stated that it will certainly benefit from the “strong leadership, passion and energy” of its new president and COO.

Goldstein has a long experience in the gambling industry. He had spent fifteen years in developing casino and hotel venues both in the Caribbean and the USA before he joined the team of Las Vegas Sands.

As for Leven, he was asked to become president of the company in 2009, after Adelson fired his predecessor Bill Weidner due to a dispute. In 2012, Leven accepted the extension of his contract. During his tenure as Las Vegas Sands’ COO and president, the operator managed to expand its business in Macau and launched the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Leven will remain a member of the company’s board of directors.
