Sean Yu Wins the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s Southern California $1,675 Main Event

SeanYuThe $1,675 Main Event at Harrah’s Resort Southern California, part of the 2014/2015 World Series of Poker Circuit, has ended. A total of 283 players took part in it and the entire prize pool totaled $424,500. It was Sean Yu from Los Angeles who finished first. He was awarded the amount of $101,881, a gold ring, and a seat at the National Championship.

Yu shared with interviewers that currently, he plays mostly tournaments. Yet, he said that he had played cash at the beginning of his career as a poker player.

Nine players took part in the final table and the first elimination came on Hand #11. Brandon Paster was the first to leave after he was defeated by the soon-to-be-champion. He took ninth place and the amount of $9,347 of the entire prize pool.

Gary Sewell and John Cynn were the next to go. They finished eighth and seventh, respectively.

The two players were followed by Tavish Margers. He was defeated by David Powers on Hand #49. Although he finished sixth in this tournament, Margers was given a consolation prize. The player from Santee, California was the one to win the Champion honors. He had won a ring in one of the preliminary events and had notched a total of three cashes. Margers was given the opportunity to take part in the National Championship, due to his excellent performance throughout the whole season.

Jacob Gruny from San Diego, California was the next to leave the final table. He was eliminated by Dan Stir. He was followed by David Powers.

Thus, Neil Scott, Dan Stir, and Sean Yu were the last remaining players on the final table. The play was supposed to stop at this point, but the three poker pros were asked if they wanted to continue playing for two more levels. They accepted the offer and thus, the name of the champion became clear a day earlier.

Neil Scott left the table on Hand #109 after he was defeated by Yu. He took the sum of $45,685 for his third place.

On the final hand of the heads-up play, Yu had [8s][6d]

and his opponent was holding [Kc][Kd]. The table showed [10d][6s][3d][10s][6h] and the name of the winner was announced.

Stir was awarded the amount of $62,962 for his runner-up position. And as already mentioned, Yu was given $101,881, a gold ring, and a place at the WSOP National Championship.

The 2014/2015 World Series of Poker Circuit has moved to Harrah’s Atlantic City. The tournament will continue up to December 22.
