The Oneida Indian Nation is about to open a spectacular casino in Chittenango. The project is supposed to be finished by the first quarter of 2015 and it is expected to be really successful and appealing to players.
Yesterday, a representative of the Oneida Indian Nation confirmed executives’ intentions to build a casino with the “Wizard of Oz” theme. According to the estimates, the project will cost approximately $20 million.
Ray Halbritter, the CEO of the Oneida Nation, provided the media with further details about the upcoming casino project. It will spread over 67,000 square feet and it will be located 14 miles away from Syracuse. Establishment of an impressive shopping center is among the things included in the plan. A building that is currently unusable is to be transformed into a shopping area.
The future casino will be called the Yellow Brick Road Casino. The announcement for its establishment came soon after the state regulators approved three casino proposals and within two years, New York is expected to have three new venues.
As a matter of fact, state authorities gave their consent Lago Resort & Casino to build a venue estimated to cost $425 million and it is to be located only 42 miles away from the place where the Oneidas have chosen to build their casino.
Halbritter announced that in order to build a casino in Chittenango, they are not obliged to seek the approval of federal or local authorities since the casino itself will be situated on reservation land, owned by Oneida and according to a law that has come into force in 1993, no permission is required.
Last year the problem, concerning the land, owned by Oneida was solved and authorities decided to give Oneidas the chance to provide their gambling services in 10 counties, neighboring their Turning Stone Casino in Verona. However, Oneidas had to agree on giving a quarter of the slot revenue to the government.
Halbritter said that the new casino will help hundreds of people find a job as the construction of the property will require the help of a great number of workers. In addition, more than 250 permanent job positions will be opened once the venue starts accepting visitors.
The other casino, managed by Oneidas has gambling, hotel and entertainment facilities but the new one is planned to be a bit smaller than the Turning Stone. Yet, managers promise that it will definitely be worthy of visiting.
The Chittenango-based venue will be open 24 hours per day and it will offer its guests more than 400 slot machines, a spacious bingo hall, dining facilities as well as a general store and a county western bar.
