Despite its woes in Asia, Playtech is doing pretty well elsewhere. The major gambling technology company said Thursday that it has gone live in the newly regulated Swiss online gambling market through a partnership with one of the major players in Switzerland’s land-based casino space.
Playtech has penned a content and technology supply deal with Swiss Casinos Group, the operator of Casino Zurich, one of Switzerland’s largest brick-and-mortar casinos.
The partnership has seen Playtech roll out its casino and live casino products to the online customers of the gambling venue. The gambling technology powerhouse was the first provider to launch both jackpot casino games and a live casino client in the Swiss market.
Swiss lawmakers closed last year a long-standing loophole in the nation’s gambling law that allowed international companies to target local customers without being officially authorized to do so. Under Switzerland’s amended gambling law, which came into effect early this year, only the country’s land-based casinos are permitted to conduct digital gambling activities.
The gaming venues are allowed to partner with foreign companies, but international operators are prohibited from bringing standalone operations into the country. Local gambling regulators are required to add any unauthorized domains to a special blacklist and Swiss Internet service providers are required to block these domains’ access to Swiss audience.
Playtech’s Entry into the Swiss Market
Playtech was the latest industry provider to have been granted access to the newly reorganized Swiss market. Switzerland’s first online casinos under the country’s new regulatory framework went live in July. Since then, they have been adding content by leading international suppliers in a bid to enhance their offering and boost player engagement.
Playtech, through its partnership with Swiss Casinos, has become the first industry provider to bring live casino experience to the newly reorganized market. As mentioned above, the company has also been able to launch its casino product with Casino Zurich’s online operation.
Playtech’s casino and live casino offerings are part of the supplier’s Playtech ONE omni-channel solution. The solution offers casino players access to content from wherever they are located and across all devices through a single wallet and account.
Commenting on their Swiss entry, Playtech COO Shimon Akad said that “live casino is a hugely exciting growth area for Playtech and we are proud to partner with Swiss Casinos on Switzerland’s first venture into this space.”
Mr. Akad also praised their Swiss partner, saying that it is the ideal company to introduce live casino offering given “their leading market position.”
Swiss Casinos CEO Marc Baumann added that “choosing the partner for the online casino platform […] was our top priority and we are delighted to partner with Playtech.”
According to Mr. Baumann, Playtech’s “outstanding offer, the high competence of the team and the flexibility in adapting to the regulatory requirements have laid the foundation for a successful and long-term cooperation.”
