Kindred Group, the online casino and sports betting operator that boasts presence in multiple European regulated markets, is now making steps to cement itself in the US gambling space.
After debuting Unibet in New Jersey earlier this year, Kindred’s flagship brand also went live in Pennsylvania to tap into the gambling market of one of the most populous US states.
In a statement issued this past Friday, Kindred announced that a Unibet-branded sportsbook has officially opened doors at Mohegan Sun Pocono in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The property is owned and operated by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, the casino resort business of Connecticut’s Mohegan Tribe.
Kindred and the Mohegans joined forces early this year. Under the terms of a multi-year agreement between the two parties, Kindred has agreed to manage Mohegan Sun Pocono’s retail and digital sports betting operations.
Pennsylvania legalized sports betting in the fall of 2017 as part of a larger gambling overhaul package. The legalization of the practice in the state came well ahead of the May 2018 ruling by the US Supreme Court that struck down the long-standing PASPA ban.
The launch of Kindred’s retail sportsbook in Pennsylvania follows the debut of the company’s Unibet-branded online sports betting operation in New Jersey. The company entered New Jersey’s sports betting market earlier this month. It also launched an online casino operation in that state this past summer as part of its strategy to penetrate and solidify its presence in multiple regulated US markets.
Digital Betting Coming Shortly
Kindred’s 1,130-square-foot Unibet Sportsbook officially opened doors at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Thursday at 11 am. The company was able to launch its betting facility after it had successfully undergone a testing period overseen by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Unibet Sportsbook was the 11th retail facility to open doors in Pennsylvania. It celebrated its grand opening just two weeks after Mount Airy Casino Resort debuted its sportsbook.
Following the launch of its retail operation in Pennsylvania, Kindred said that it is also gearing up preparations to go live with digital sports betting in the near future as well as with an online casino. The company’s online gambling experience in the state will also include an Apple and Android-compatible app.
Commenting on Kindred’s entry in Pennsylvania, Manuel Stan, SVP at Kindred US, said that they are excited to partner with Mohegan Sun Pocono and to be able to welcome patrons to their new sports betting facility and “offer a great extension to our online product in one of the largest states to regulate both online sports betting and casino.”
Aviram Alroy, Vice President of Interactive Gaming at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, added that they have aligned with one of the best online casino and sports betting operators and that this partnership will result in the provision of “best in class experience to our current clients and attract new fans.”
Kindred and Mohegan Sun Pocono are yet to announce when the gambling venue will start offering online wagering and casino gaming experience, but this is likely to happen in the coming weeks.
