A new year is lurking just around the corner and for avid tournament poker players, this means new opportunities for titles, accolades, and cash prizes.
WPT Gardens Poker Championship is the first WPT Main Tour event of 2020 and one of the first on the 2020 poker calendar. For yet another year, The Gardens Casino in Hawaiian Gardens, California will see a plethora of players flock to its poker tables to test their skills and take a shot at winning a WPT title.
Preliminary events have been running at The Gardens Casino since December 13 and the ongoing WPT festival is set to run through January 15. The Main Event is slated to kick off on January 9 with the first of two starting flights.
The WPT Gardens Poker Championship Main Event will feature a buy-in fee of $10,000. Action at The Gardens Casino will take place across two Day 1s and four days of play. The final day of the tournament – the one that will see the six final tablists battle it out for the title – will take place on March 31, 2020 at HyperX Esports Arena at Luxor Las Vegas and will be filmed for television.
Last year’s edition of the WPT Gardens Poker Championship drew a total of 253 entries who generated a prize pool of $2,428,800. The money was split into payouts for the top 32 finishers, with min-cashes starting from $19,120.
It was Frank Stepuchin who claimed the top prize and the title. The player collected $548,825 in prize money for besting the tournament’s field and remaining the last man standing.
Other Major Tournaments during the WPT Gardens Festival
While the Main Event will clearly be the tournament to be paid the widest attention during the WPT Gardens, there will be a number of other exciting events to take place within the poker festival.
The WPT Gardens features two high roller tournaments, both with a $25,000 buy-in fee. The first one will take place on January 6. It will feature an action clock and will be rake-free. The second tournament is scheduled for January 7. It will feature $5,000 bounties for additional thrill and excitement. That second high roller will, too, be rake-free.
The WPT Gardens schedule for the 2020 edition of the festival also includes a $5,000 buy-in Deepstack event. The tournament will run over two days, starting from January 11.
Players who would like to take part in the Main Event but want to avoid the $10,000 buy-in fee will be given a plenty of chances to win a seat into the tournament through a number of satellite events with different buy-ins of as little as $20. Given the fact that the Main Event winner would scoop a six-figure top prize, winning a seat through a $20 satellite is quite the bargain.
