British bookmaker Betfred has partnered Scientific Games to harness the gambling technology giant’s OpenSports platform in Pennsylvania as part of its US sports betting expansion campaign.
Under the terms of its deal with Scientific Games, Betfred will be able to launch both retail and digital sports betting solutions in the Keystone State.
The partnership between the operator and the Las Vegas-technology supplier will first see the launch of retail offering at Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Betfred forged a sports wagering partnership with the gambling venue not long ago.
The retail solutions are expected to go live in the first half of the year. Betfred and Scientific Games will also launch desktop and mobile sports betting for Pennsylvania customers ahead of the 2020-21 NFL season.
Betfred’s partnership with the technology giant was the second US sports betting-related announcement made by the British bookmaker in as many weeks as it seeks to join the US athletic gambling stampede.
Late last month, Betfred teamed up with Saratoga Casino Black Hawk to jointly operate a retail sportsbook at the casino complex located in Colorado’s historic town of Black Hawk, known for the dense concentration of casinos. The partnership will also include the launch of desktop and mobile wagering solutions for Colorado-based bettors.
Growing Sportsbook Presence at Speed
Betfred will deploy Scientific Games’ OpenSports platform to deliver sports betting experience to customers in Pennsylvania. Commenting on their partnership with the leading industry supplier, Betfred Group COO Mark Stebbings said that “Scientific Games was the clear choice to provide our sports betting platform in Pennsylvania” and that “OpenSports provides best-in-class, reliable technology and services that will help us reach more players and grow our sportsbook presence at speed.”
SVP Sportsbook, Digital for Scientific Games, Keith O’Loughlin, said that his company and its new client can “make a massive impact” in the US sports betting arena by “driving player engagement and putting their digital and retail sportsbooks at the forefront of this expanding landscape.”
Mr. O’Loughlin further noted that Betfred was the latest “sophisticated and experienced sports betting operator” to deploy OpenSports to “responsibly grow its US presence.”
Scientific Games is benefiting from its OpenSports sports betting platform amid a massive growth of the segment in the US after the $631 million acquisition of NYX Gaming in January 2018.
Another major sports betting operator has been in talks with Scientific Games to use its OpenSports product, if recent reports are to be believed. FanDuel has reportedly been considering its migration to the OpenSports platform in states where it already takes bets as well as in ones it plans to enter. The company’s sports betting operations are currently supported by GAN’s back-end platform and IGT’s sportsbook technology.
While some reports have indicated that a deal between FanDuel and Scientific Games is imminent, separate sources have told media outlets that FanDuel has engaged in talks with several sports betting technology providers but is yet to make a decision.
