Malta-based gaming operator Interwetten has announced that it will re-enter the online betting market in Greece. Furthermore, the company, which has been offering its numerous gaming options for more than two decades, hinted at the possibility of expanding its business on other markets as well.
These announcements came after it became clear that Interwetten’s gaming revenue marked an 18% rise in 2014, as compared to what was generated during the previous year.
According to the company’s financial report, gross gaming revenue reached the amount of €46.3 million. What is more, a 15% rise was posted in the turnover from betting activities. Interwetten also pointed out that it had an exceedingly strong fourth quarter. The revenue that was generated during the period in question totaled €11.4 million.
The company released a special statement, in which it pointed out that its growth was much faster than initially expected. Werner Becher, a spokesperson for Interwetten, said that 2014 might be considered one of the most profitable years for the operator.
Back in December 2014, the company was informed that it would be allowed to re-enter the online betting market in Greece after it had been forced to withdraw its operations from the country due to certain regulatory conditions.
Interwetten is to work in a collaboration with one of the Greek interim license holders. A dot.gr website is to be launched and it will offer various options for online sports betting.
In addition to this, the company is planning to introduce its services to new markets during the first quarter of 2015.
It was also announced that the gambling operator will develop an online platform for a certain betting agency, located within the territory of Europe. Its name, however, is yet to be revealed. It was only pointed out that it is in a country where the company had previously provided its services.
Interwetten is also planning to expand its product offering on its Spanish platform. The company submitted an application for the extension of its current license so as to be able to offer slots games to its Spain-based customers. The novelties will be introduced through a special advertising campaign, which is planned to start in February.
The company will also release new commercials in Austria and Germany. Currently, Interwetten is one of the most successful operators in Austria. As for its presence in Germany, the operator did not manage to acquire one of the twenty sports betting licenses that local regulators granted in September 2014.
However, Mr. Becher pointed out that the company should still enhance its marketing in the region, for this will most certainly prove to be profitable in future.
