Roulette has two parts: a wheel and a betting layout. Before you buy in, check the wheel type, minimum bet, chip values, and posted rules. A single-zero wheel has 37 pockets: numbers 1 through 36, plus zero. A double-zero wheel has 38: numbers 1 through 36, plus zero and double zero. The betting layout shows places to bet on individual numbers and groups. At many live tables, each player receives a different color of roulette chip. Ask the dealer what each chip is worth; do not assume it matches a regular casino chip. Place chips where you intend to bet. A straight-up bet selects one number. Other areas cover groups such as a color or range; exact options vary by table. When betting closes, the dealer spins the ball and wheel. When the ball settles, the dealer marks the winning pocket, removes losing bets, and pays winning ones according to that table's rules. For one example, a one-dollar straight-up bet at thirty-five to one earns thirty-five dollars in profit. The original dollar also comes back, for thirty-six dollars returned. That is a payout example, not a guarantee. Check the rules and wager only what you can afford to lose.
