Let's walk through video poker. You get five cards, choose which ones to keep, then replace the rest. Your final hand decides the payout. We're using Jacks or Better. Other versions have different rules and payouts, so check your game's paytable first. A credit isn't always a dollar. Here, one credit is twenty-five cents. We're betting one credit, so our total stake is twenty-five cents. Press Deal. In this example, we've got two kings and three unrelated cards. You're playing against the paytable, not another player. For this hand, keep both kings, mark them Hold, and replace the other three cards. The right choice depends on your hand and the game you're playing. Now press Draw. The held cards stay and the others change. Our example ends with three kings. It's just an illustration. Your next hand could be different. Here, three of a kind returns three credits on our one-credit bet. That's seventy-five cents back. Subtract the twenty-five cent stake and the net win is fifty cents. Always match your strategy to the exact game and paytable. Better decisions can improve expected results, but they can't guarantee a winning session. Set a spending limit before you start and stop when you reach it. Our video poker guide explains hand rankings, paytables, and game variations in more detail.
