A New Casino Might Open Doors in Central London

News

VFMLID=35041473It has been announced that Central London is about to have its first Las Vegas-styled casino, which is to operate 24/7. It seems, however, that residents of the area where the venue is planned to be located are not particularly happy with this turn of events.

Genting Casinos, subsidiary of the Malaysia-based Genting Group, aims at launching a 30,000-square-foot casino on Cromwell Road in South Kensington, which, however, will be located in a residential area.

It was reported that residents of the area in question are terrified by the effect the casino might have on communities. Representatives of the so-called Thurloe Residents’ Association said that the consequences will be “detrimental”. They pointed out that the launch of such facilities often leads to disorderly behavior.

Residents also shared that they are not keen on the opening of the new casino, for it will attract more people and cars to the residential area, which is traditionally supposed to be quiet and less crowded. What is more, they complained that they already have to bear with pimps and brothels, and that the casino will only increase their problems.

As it was announced, the ground and first floor of the Holiday Inn will be taken over by the new gambling venue. According to initial estimations, approximately 1,500 players are to visit it daily.

Genting Casinos issued a special report in which it claimed that the casino will distinguish itself with an excellent architectural design and will replace the “drab” façade of the building.

The developer also commented on the residents’ concerns, stating that the gambling industry is among the most strictly regulated businesses. Genting Casinos pointed out that it will do its best to prevent any inappropriate behavior in its new gambling venue.

Currently, the company operates a total of 40 facilities around the United Kingdom. A spokesperson for the operator shared with local media that the new venue will not be yet another regular casino. It will feature a top-class restaurant and a bar, which will be open to everyone.

The spokesperson also said that Genting Casinos is experienced enough to be able to prevent any potential risk that the new casino might pose to residents of the area.

He ensured that a valet service will take care of the customers’ vehicles, so as to stop them from parking directly on the street and thus, causing any inconvenience to residents.

A spokesperson for the Kensington and Chelsea Council stated that the application for the casino will be considered in the traditional way and everyone who objects to the project might turn to the council planners.

The final decision as to whether the casino will be launched will be announced in March.
