The company had that opportunity last week during a meeting with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. Somerset on the Move LLC was believed to pay the sum of $400,000 and ask for permission to build a casino in the town but unfortunately, that did not happen.
Instead, the company announced that it is willing to work in collaboration with Crossroads Massachusetts. In the casino industry, the latter is mainly associated with the rejected proposal for establishing a casino in another town.
The deadline for the above-mentioned application to be submitted was January 30th but it became clear that the Gaming Commission has granted 60 more days for the casino proposal to be submitted along with all the additional information necessary.
Somerset selectman Chairman Donald Setters commented on the matters and said that Crossroads has already paid the required $400,000 for an application fee for its casino proposal in Milford so in case of signing an agreement with Somerset, there is no need the sum to be paid again.
In addition, Massachusetts gambling authorities have already performed a thorough checking procedure when Crossroads applied for a casino license in Milford and there is no need to undergo the same procedure again.
Setters also revealed that the next application submitted to the Commission should contain information about the financial aspect of the project as well as the name of the developer.
The Chairman said that Somerset officials have not been informed about such a merger as both sides were discussing the details privately and added that all too often, casino projects are completed by various entities, which work together.
What is more, Setters believes that the contract between Somerset on the Move and Crossroads will have a positive impact on the development of the local gambling sector.
According to him, the future casino proposal will be superior to the one for the Milford casino. The venue is likely to be located near Route 103 and will spread over 100 acres of land.
Apart from developing the untapped gambling sector, the casino will also boost the economy because of the taxes, owners will have to pay and the job positions that are to be opened.
