New Mexico Tribal Casinos to Have Their Working Hours Extended

News

It seems like the tribal casinos on the territory of New Mexico have not abandoned their plans for playing a key role in state’s economy. A few weeks ago, their officials raised the question about the expiration of their licenses and now, they have another proposal, which was already submitted to the New Mexican gambling officials.

It is expected their proposal to be reviewed and a final decision to be announced within a few days. If the proposal is approved, tribal casinos on the territory of New Mexico will be available for players 24 hours a day. In addition, high-roller players will be given certain benefits. Plus, casinos will be eligible for offering a wider variety of dining and accommodation.

In point of fact, the latest proposal is a part of the above mentioned one, concerning the expiration of the licenses of tribal casino operators. They have already entered into talks with New Mexico officials and Governor Susana Martinez, in particular.

In case their licenses are renewed, tribal casinos will be given the chance to operate their properties under certain terms that are expected to be more beneficial than the current ones.

However, the executives of the tribal casinos will have to comply with new requirements as well. They will be responsible for compiling reports related to the problem gambling issues. They will also have to give their consent to participating in a special program that allows players prone to gambling addiction to exclude themselves from casinos.

Although the licenses renewal process already has its opponents, the benefits casinos bring to the local economy can hardly be denied. The Governor said that the revenues generated through gambling ensure economy diversification without putting the vulnerable part of the population in danger since the necessary measures for promoting responsible gaming have been taken in advance.

As for the current working hours of the casinos, they will be extended provided that the New Mexico gambling officials approve of the clauses the proposal contains. Currently, casinos are supposed to stay closed for four hours per day or more during the weekdays, excluding Friday.

Another important amendment is to be implemented as well. The credit given to players is likely to be increased, provided that players have sufficient income and meet some additional requirements.

According to people with knowledge on the matter, the credit extension will be really favorable since most players who are likely to spend a lot of money on gambling are not willing to bring a lot of cash with them.
