Day 2 of the Main Event saw 88 players returning. What is more, only 45 players were to be paid and the bubble burst after Wiora eliminated a short-stacked player in Level 19.
Ten players sat at the final table and it was in Level 26 when Ernest Garrett became the first to leave it after he was defeated by Gerald Heckathorn. In Level 27, Will Stone was the next to go as he was eliminated by Wiora himself. Garrett and Stone were paid $8,964 for their tenth and ninth places, respectively.
Yet another player left the final table mere minutes after Stone. Mike Holm, too, fell victim to the soon-to-be-champion, who by that time had a total of 3,055,000 in chips. Holm received $12,998 for his eighth position.
Jason Schimelpfenig was eliminated in seventh place by Craig Trost a few minutes before the end of Level 27.
Level 28 saw Wiora as a chip leader (3,370,000), followed by Heckathorn (1,920,000).
Trost was the next to go after he could not hold up against Thomas Peebles. He was followed by Heckathorn, who was eliminated by Marvin Roelke. The latter was busted by Wiora in Level 29.
Thus, Caffee, Peebles, and Wiora were the only three remaining players on the final table. Caffee, however, could not hold up against Peebles and was eliminated in third place. She took the amount of $40,337 for being among the final three.
At the beginning of the heads-up play, Wiora was way ahead of his opponent with 7,700,000 in chips. Peebles had only 1,590,000.
The final hand occurred shortly after the beginning of Level 30. Wiora held [Kd][10s] and Peebles had [As][7s]. The board showed [Js][Kc][4d] on the flop and this gave Wiora a significant lead. When two deuces appeared, it became clear that he was the winner of the event. Wiora was awarded $114,512.
As for Peebles, he was paid the amount of $66,108 for his runner-up position.
The next MSPT is scheduled for March 12 and will be held in Colorado.
