Mohegan Sun to Open a New Hotel in Connecticut

Yesterday, it was announced that Mohegan Sun executives are considering the opportunity for establishment of a second hotel in the state of Connecticut.

The announcement was made at a press conference held on Thursday, which was attended by the Governor of Connecticut Dannel Malloy and Nancy Wyman, the Lieutenant Governor of the state.

According to the information released, the future property will be added to the property located in Uncasville. What made tribal executives opt for expansion was their wish to provide their guests with utmost experience while having them on the premises of Mohegan Sun.

Currently, the tribe manages Sky Hotel and the name of the new property will be Earth Hotel. It is expected to feature 400 stylish hotel rooms.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown, put emphasis on the fact that the tribal gambling affairs on the territory of the state have had an extremely positive impact on the local economy diversification.

He did not miss to mention that over the years, Mohegan Tribal Nation has invested billion dollars into the casino resort in Uncasville, which, therefore, boosted the tourism. In conclusion, Mr. Brown said that the Mohegan Tribal Nation is absolutely aware of the key role it has in the development of the Connecticut gambling and tourism sector.

Mitchell Etess, the Chief Executive for the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority also commented on the matter and said that currently, the casino is facing tough competition and the worst of all is that the rivalry was going to increase as the neighboring states are preparing to have their gambling segments diversified. Mr. Etess also said that the Mohegan Sun officials will do their best to remain competitive and appealing destination for players at the East Coast.

He also said that the officials of the Mohegan Sun are determined to finish the project as soon as possible since it has been among their top priorities for quite some time.

Apart from boosting Mohegan Sun’s popularity, the new hotel would further diversify the local economy by attracting residents from the southeastern part of the state and creating plenty of job opportunities.

As many as 1,000 construction and permanent jobs are to be created. The number of indirect job positions was estimated to be 1,200. The Earth Hotel is expected to open doors for guests in the second half of 2016.

The design of the hotel is not expected to be too different from the one of Sky Hotel.
