The winner of the second one-day event, part of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge, became clear mere hours ago. His name is Xiaohu Chen and he topped a field of 117 entrants in the $500 No-Limit Hold’em event to capture the amount of $15,242 of the entire prize pool.
Ten players took part in the final table play and Jerry Calvaneso, who won Event #1 of the tournament, was among them.
James Morin was the first to leave in Level 19, after he failed to hold up against Joe Ciffa. The player was paid $1,067.
After Morin’s elimination, Calvaneso was the chip leader with 695,000 in chips. He was followed by Ciffa and Chen with 650,000 and 600,000, respectively.
It took two levels before another player was eliminated. Then, in Level 21, Jason Stockfish defeated Sharman Olshan. The female player received $1,372 for her ninth place.
At the beginning of Level 22, Calvaneso was still the chip leader with 800,000, but this time he was followed by Chen with 670,000.
Peter Owczarczak was eliminated in eighth place by Stockfish. He was followed by Calvaneso, who could not stand a chance against Chen.
Kyle Gauchat was yet another player to be defeated by Stockfish. He took $2,642 for his sixth position in the event.
With only five players at the final table, it was Stockfish who held the majority of chips. He had 1,200,000 and was closely followed by Chen with 1,100,000.
Charles Johnson Jr was the next to go. He was eliminated by Ciffa, who was then defeated by Chen. The players took $3,556 and $4,827 for their fifth and fourth places, respectively.
Only a few minutes later, Chen eliminated Sammy Iraci in third place. He was paid $6,656 for his participation in the event.
At the beginning of the heads-up play, Chen had 2,100,000 in chips and Stockfish held 1,400,000.
The final hand occurred in Level 26. Chen had [Ks][Qh] and his opponent had [Kc][5d]. Stockfish bet 150,000 and Chen called. When [Ad][Jc][Qc] appeared, Stockfish bet 170,000 more and Chen called. The board then showed [5c] on the turn and Stockfish moved all in. His opponent called and [6d] appeared on the river. Thus, the name of the champion became clear.
Stockfish had to content himself with the second place in the event and the sum of $9,450. As for the winner, he was was awarded $15,242 and a trophy.
