It has just been announced that Jim Mullen was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of UK-based gambling company Ladbrokes. Mr. Mullen will take up his new post on April 1 from former CEO Richard Glynn.
At present, Mr. Mullen is taking the position of Managing Director of Ladbrokes’ digital operations. He joined the gambling operator back in 2013. Previously, he had been Chief Operating Officer of William Hill, where he had been in charge of the company’s online operations.
At Ladbrokes, it was his responsibility to make sure that the operator would constantly deliver new products and systems that would meet customers’ demands. What is more, Mr. Mullen managed to establish a strong connection with Playtech, one of Ladbrokes’ business partners.
Peter Erskine, Chairman of Ladbrokes’ Board of Directors, shared with media that they have carefully looked for a successor of Mr. Glynn and they have been talking to several candidates who have not been involved with the company in any way. Mr. Erskine pointed out that the company wanted a person who had “industry experience with strong digital skills”, a person who would contribute to the company’s growth.
Mr. Erskine explained that since his arrival nearly 18 months ago, Mr. Mullen has been a key figure in the transformation of the company’s Digital operations, as he succeeded in delivering “a new competitive and innovative digital offer”, which resulted in Ladbrokes’ growth.
The Board believes that Mr. Mullen has the necessary leadership qualities to make the company even more competitive and to expand its business even further.
Mr. Mullen, too, commented on his appointment, stating that he was particularly delighted to take up the position of CEO of Ladbrokes. He pointed out that the company has changed quite rapidly and the foundations for its future growth have been laid. Yet, as he shared, both its managing team and employees have much more to do.
Mr. Glynn will leave his post as CEO and Board member on March 31. He promised that despite his resignation, he will work closely with the company’s new CEO.
Ladbrokes announced that Mr. Mullen’s salary as a CEO will be £500,000. He will also receive certain customary benefits as well as bonuses, depending on the company’s performance. His appointment as Director of the gambling operator will come immediately after the end of the Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled for May 7.
