The Global Poker Index is a weekly leaderboard ranking that assesses players’ performance in live tournaments over a certain period of time. Three main things are taken into consideration by compilers of the ranking – the number of tournament entries a given player has competed against, the buy-in fees of the respective events, and the overall amount of money he or she has won over the past 36 months.
GPI released this week’s ranking earlier today. It is not a surprise that it is once again topped by German player Ole Schemion, who has a total of 4,233.33 points so far. Generally speaking, Top 10 of the leaderboard remained steady over the past week. There was a bit more action at Top 20, as several players swapped places.
There is, however, one players that needs to be paid a bit more attention. His name is Anthony Zinno and recently, he became known as the third player in the history of poker to win three WPT Main Events, with the other two being Carlos Mortensen and Gus Hansen. He won the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic Main Event for $302,235 and the WPT L.A Poker Classic for $1,015,860 in February 2015 as well as the 2013 WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event for $825,099.
So far, Zinno has a total of 3,203.85 points in the GPI ranking and he is currently taking the 18th spot. The player from Boston, Massachusetts ranked 53rd at the beginning of 2015. He took the 70th position in early February and managed to jump to 36th place by the end of the month.
The March 4 update of the GPI ranking showed that Zinno climbed four positions. The player jumped 19 more places over the next seven days. He ranked 13th on March 11, 15th on March 18, and 16th on March 25.
Both February and March were quite eventful for the player. As mentioned above, he won his second and third WPT Main Events in February and his lucky streak continued in March, as he triumphed in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars $24,500 + 500 No Limit Hold’em – High Roller event in San Jose, California, where he won $197,758.
Zinno’s earnings from live tournaments currently amount to $3,083,640 with best live cash of $1,015,860 from the WPT L.A Poker Classic.
