Soon, the New Jersey residents might be able to take part in sports betting activities online. The Governor, Chirs Christie, has taken significant and yet disputable actions towards enabling the local casinos and racetracks to provide the players with the chance to make online sports betting. The new regulation has its fans and opponents and both sides have their convincing reasons that support their standpoint.
It is a well known fact that the main reason for the prohibited betting actions on sporting events stems from the aim of the authorities to protect the US sports leagues from corruption.
Despite being aware of the opposition of the American sports leagues, he will have to face up to, the Governor decided to tackle this delicate matter.
Christie has taken the initiative because of a rule, that has been recently abolished by the federal court. Until recently, casinos and horse racing tracks has been prohibited from providing the players with sports betting. Now, they are free to offer such activities as long as they are not sponsored by the state of New Jersey. The Governor also asked the authorities for further approval of the directive.
Formerly, the sports leagues did whatever it takes to overturn the restrictions for sports betting throughout the US, except for four states. Now, the tendency stays the same – the directive of the New Jersey’s attorney general’s office is expected to meet their resentment.
The local casinos don’t seem to be looking forward for the directive to pass though. When asked about their future plans, most casino representatives answered that for the time being, they are not intending to offer sport betting. Obviously, they are waiting to see how the new regulations will be accepted by the players while bearing in mind the unavoidable opposition of the sports leagues.
At first sight, the new law seems to be a wise decision and an important step towards solving such a embarrassing issue. However, it is worthy of mentioning that the US Supreme Court was not really supportive the last time when the New Jersey state tried to overturn the ban.
The controversial directive the Governor issued was attached to a federal motion, that requests changing the regulations, which prohibited a licensing program for sport betting in New Jersey in the past.
