It seems like the poker star Gus Hansen is having a hard time winning awards and making his fans happy with the overwhelming victories they are used to witness. The last month was a terrible period in Hansen’s career and he lost over $900, 000.
Hansen’s downswing was the perfect opportunity for an unknown player with the nickname “thecortster” to win impressive awards. The authorities are not quite certain who the player can be though. The only thing they are sure about is that the account was created three years ago.
Gus Hansen didn’t manage to be present at the Full Tilt Poker event last week, which made his fans bitterly disappointed. Last Sunday was the day when he was supposed to have a match against one of his main opponents Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.
If he had succeeded in taking part in the PokerStars’ event, he would have probably been $50, 000 richer.
As reported later by a representative, Hansen was not able to play due to unexpected events that have befallen him. However, his absence gave Jake Cody the opportunity to play on Hansen’s behalf. Having said that, a logical explanation for his absence was not given. His fans could only put forward different suggestions about the “unforeseen circumstances” that caused the unavailability of their favourite poker star. While some of them truly believe that he faced an emergency, others are convinced that the reason was his rapid downfall.
According to the estimates, Hansen has lost a significant amount of money so far. The PokerStars authorities apologized to all the disappointed fans who were impatient to see the outcome of the match between Isildur and Hansen. They didn’t confirm if the match will take place at a later stage anyway.
Meanwhile, Jake Cody’s fans were excited to see that their favourite player was having a match definitely worthy of seeing. Nevertheless, Blom defeated Cody, which ensured him bragging rights as well as the award, equal to $50, 000.
Later on, Cody shared on his profile in Twitter that if he was the winner, it would have been a legendary victory.
Despite his ongoing difficulties, Hansen has had really successful periods one of which is when he won a bracelet. 2006 was the year when he made it to the final table in the World Series of Poker and the Poker All Star Challenge. He was the first to win the open tournaments in the World Poker Tour.
In 2008 he became a runner – up in the WPT Championship.
These are just few of the tournaments he had taken part in. He is also famous for being an owner of a website, having a published book and broadcasting a poker channel.
Up to now, his earnings are estimated to be more than $11, 000, 000.
