It was announced that the professional poker player ‘Mad’ Marvin Rettenmaier and the company that supports him, partypoker, will no longer work in collaboration.
That’s not the first termination of a contract between a poker pro and a sponsor company and rumor has it that will definitely not be the last one. Now, fans and the media are waiting impatiently to see who will be the next player to part ways with partypoker or any other gaming platform.
‘Mad’ Marvin Rettenmaier has been a part of the company for more than two years. Once the partnership came to an end, the German poker pro commented it via the social networks and expressed his gratitude to partypoker. He also added that he is thankful for every challenge he faced during the last two years and a half. Rettenmaier hurried up to make it clear that he is not going to change his lifestyle because of the termination of the contract.
In addition,Marvin Rettenmaier said that this year he won’t take part in the EPT as a player of partypoker. However, he doesn’t consider this situation to be a setback for taking the first place in the Tournament for two consecutive years and wished good luck to all the participants.
partypoker is another prestigious company that gave up on sponsoring prominent poker players just because the authorities considered the investment to be unprofitable. In other words, the sponsorship of famous poker players didn’t lead to the expected results.
Yet, some experts think that Rettenmaier was a great asset to partypoker. Some of the most notable moments from his biography include winning the WPT World Championship and the WPT Main Event in Cyprus. He has been ranked among the ten best poker players for more than two year and the total amount of his earnings is almost $5 million.
Alarming Tendency for Contract Terminations
Earlier this year PokerStars, 888Poker and Ultimate Poker have come to the same conclusion as far as the support of poker pros is concerned. The companies parted ways with some of the best players round the globe. PokerStars didn’t extend the contract with Jose Barbero, Joe Cada, Alex Kravchenko, Humberto Brenes; Brent Hanks, William Reynolds, Phil Collins, Jason Somerville are no longer supported by Ultimate Poker; 888Poker excluded JC Tran from their squad but a representative of the player said that the termination of the contract was a decision taken by both sides due to the fact that JC Tran and 888Poker felt like the extension of the contract won’t bring any benefits.
Norbert Teufelberger, a Chef Executive of bwin.party, said that the latest events are not surprising and the performance of the gaming providers didn’t live up to his expectations.
According to the initial plan, bwin.party was supposed to conquer the European gambling market while firmly keeping its position in the US by making efforts for popularizing partypoker and the WPT.
