Thorhild Widwey, the Norwegian Minister of Culture, has made an official announcement and said that the National Championship may be held on Norwegian soil next year.
The bill, intended to give the authorities a permission to organize various tournaments and gaming evens on the territory of Norway, was submitted to the members of the Parliament for discussion and consideration. If the bill passes Norway will play host to live tournaments, poker games etc.
It looks like there is not a setback for making these intentions come true but sadly, Ireland’s gambling legislation affairs are not going as smooth as the Norwegian ones.
The Ministry of Culture of Norway has issued a statement, which says that an amenity of the gambling law was imposed and the Poker Championships will take place in Norway. The qualifiers and the forms of poker games were also mentioned in the announcement.
Up to now, the surprising thing about the Norwegian Poker Tournaments was that they were held abroad because of the strict gambling rules, that posed a restriction for holding a tournament on the territory of the country. Thorhild Widwey assured the poker fans that the tournaments will no longer take place abroad.
Although the Norwegian players have their reason to be happy, the announcement of the Ministry doesn’t give a 100% guarantee that the things will go smooth and the Tournament will take place in Oslo next year.
It is a well known fact that Minister Widwey is really interested in making the gambling activities legal in Norway. She made proposals for a license issue a few months ago. She suggested choosing a gaming operator to take care of the poker event but the pool price was limited to $335, 000.
The new proposal, however, sets a limit of $131, 000.
The local regulator, Lotteritilsynet, was chosen to be in charge of making the Widwey’s intentions come true. There is a possibility of legalizing the home games as well.
The experts consider the gambling legislation to be a difficult procedure with an uncertain outcome. Nevertheless, the discussion of the gambling bill is regarded as a major step forward.
As far as the home games legislation is concerned, they will be legalised but some restrictions will be imposed too. Home games will be allowed if the number of participants is less or equal to 10. The proposal is currently reviewed by the Parliament members and meanwhile the players are playing the waiting game.
Norway takes pride in having some really prominent poker players. One of them even challenged the Parliament members to play against him. His intention was approving of the well-known fact that poker is a game, based predominantly on the skills of the player rather than on pure luck.
