The Poker Hall of Fame will have two new additions at the beginning of November after an official event that is to be held at Binion’s Gambling Hall in Downtown Las Vegas. The induction of Daniel Negreanu and Jack McClelland will become a fact at a ceremony that is scheduled for November 9, 2014.
The Poker Hall of Fame board presented the two selectees for the 2014 Poker Hall of Fame and the members of the Governing Council of the association will surely make their choices easily. This is because the two nominees are Daniel Negreanu and Jack McCelland. The ceremony will be held at the Binion’s Gambling Hall in Las Vegas on November 9. It will be part of the introductory event. The Binion’s Gambling Hall is the headquarters of the World Series of Poker.
Both the selectees have visited the location in the past; Jack McCellan was an event director of the World Series of Poker during the 80s and Negreanu had his first ever win of a WSOP bracelet in 1998 at the Binion’s Gambling Hall. He won the $2k Pro-Limit Hold’em facing Dominik Bourke at the final.
Mr. McCellan, 63, will be happy to receive such a respectable award as he has recently been having health problems and is awaiting a heart transplant. He told a close friend of his, Nolan Dalla, that he hopes he will make the right decision, as he is considering either to wait for a new heart or have a heart battery surgery.
Negreanu also eagerly awaits the award and tweeted “Does age matter?”, after people of the poker community said he is too young for such a recognition. Negreanu is currently taking the first place on the list of all time tournament winnings with little over $30 million.
Ty Steward, who is part of the Poker Hall of Fame governing council, congratulated the two selectees and noted that despite their difference in age and style of play, they both have devoted a considerable amount of their lives to poker and are earning a living off of the winnings.
The award ceremony will be held in the Longhorn Room, where the first finals of WSOP were organized in the 70s. The ceremony will be part of the Main Event for 2014, where a new winner will take a $10-million first place prize.
Other short-listed poker players were Humberto Brenes, Bob Hooks, Huckleberry Seed, Chris Bjorin, etc.
McCelland expressed his excitement about being inducted into the list of the Poker Hall of Fame. He thanked his fans, the WSOP and WPT organizers and said he has met many wonderful people and is extremely grateful for the recognition.
Negreanu also thanked the governing council for placing him among all those great poker players, who are part of the Poker Hall of Fame. He also mentioned that it is a great honor that he is selected at the age of 40, identically to the great poker player Chip Reese. He thanked all Poker Hall of Fame and Blue Ribbon Media Panel members who voted for him.
