1341322509_p193464-Atlantic_City-Trump_Taj_Mahal_CasinoIt is a well known fact that Taj Mahal is a casino that has recently undergone a numerous number of setbacks. A lot of market analysts as well as the previous owners consider the poor management to be among the main reasons for the problems but it is definitely not the only one.

Last week, the authorities announced that the official closure of Taj Mahal can not take place on November 13th, like it was planned so it will remain open for an indefinite period. Yet, the workers are really disappointed with the authorities’ intention to cut down on their health and pension benefits. Carl Icahn is probably the only person who could save the casino from closure.

However, contrary to the information released, Carl Icahn announced that Taj Mahal will, by all means, close, because the financial condition of the casino is critical. Icahn made that comment for a reliable media and he sounded much like someone who is sick and tired of the constant issues and the fight for saving the venue from closure.

Nevertheless, he added that if he had known what the outcome of that situation would have been, he would never answered the phone when the company made an attempt to ask him for help. He also said that even if he invests the sum of $100 million into the casino, there is no sure indication that the closure will be prevented.

Icahn also said that he is disappointed with the actions, taken by the authorities towards saving the casino. He considers their efforts to be ineffective and if they don’t change the course of actions they took, the result would most probably be closure of the casino. More than 3000 workers will be left unemployed, without health and pension benefits.

The last protest, organized by the union, took place last Friday (October 24th). The employees protested against the termination of their pension and health benefits. The managers remained tight lipped about the protest activities but it is certain that if the casino closes, the workers will be left without the benefits they have the right to be ensured with. Yet, the authorities promised to keep the venue open as long as possible.

Patty Gallagher, an employee who has been working in Taj Mahal since the opening, expressed the attitude of her co-workers and said that the entire situation was just terrible. She shared that she is having a serious operation, planned for the beginning of next year and if the health benefits are cut, she won’t be able to pay for it.

As a response to the furious workers, Carl Icahn posted an open letter on his blog and said that the employees should be mad at the managers of Trump Entertainment Resorts because the board of directors didn’t take adequate measures towards saving the casino while Icahn was willing to invest in it. He also informed the workers that despite his investment, the casino is facing closure.
