Some of them were willing to give a green light to the development of the gambling sector in the state while others were totally against the establishment of any casinos and considered the disadvantages to be many more than the advantages.

The tension was about to escalate so the local regulators provided the residents with a chance to have their final say through giving their positive or negative vote in the elections.

Despite all the setbacks, the final decision of the voters has been announced. The residents of Massachusetts decided not to amend the law, implemented three years ago.

The so called Question 3 says that no more than three casinos and one slots parlor can be established on the territory of the state. In other words, the casino projects, that have already received an approval from the local gambling regulators, will be completed soon. The same thing applies to the slots parlor that will be located in Plainville.

According to the information, released by a respected media, 60% of the voters have given a “no” vote on the disputable Question 3.

The companies that have been approved for starting casino project in Springfield and Everett were Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts. However, the building procedures as well as the license proceedings were halted because of the wave of disapproving comments and the negative attitude of the residents. Now, when the issue was figured out by fair elections, they can proceed with the paperwork and the casino establishment.

Now MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts are supposed to pay the fee for obtaining a license and go ahead with their projects.

As far as the establishment of slots parlor is concerned, the regulators provided the investors with a licence a few months ago.

However, unlike MGM and Wynn Resorts, the authorities didn’t freeze the project in order to see what the final decision of the voters would be. Currently, the building procedure is in an advanced stage and the venue is expected to open doors for visitors in the middle of the next year.

Even the strongest opponents of the casino establishment in the Bay State agreed that the local economy will be boosted when the casinos open and start paying their taxes.

As mentioned above, Question 3 allows up to three casinos to be built in the area. The third one will be located in Southeastern Massachusetts but the building procedures are supposed to start in the summer of 2015.

As soon as it became clear that voters will be in charge of implementing amenities in Question 3, a great number of surveys were conducted and most of them indicated that the citizens of Massachusetts are not willing to repeal the law.

Nevertheless, opponents and proponents of the idea for casino establishment spent a lot of time and money with the aim of convincing the voters to support their standpoint.
