Canada has proved to be the home country of excellent poker players. After the numerous achievements of its poker star Daniel Negreanu, the country now has its new big champion – Gabriel Le Jossec. He became the winner of the Asian Championship of Poker Main Event, which was held several days ago.
It is important to note that Le Jossec prevented Sunny Jung, a well-known name in the world of poker, from keeping possession of the title he won in Season 7 of the Asian Pacific Poker Tour, which took place back in 2013.
The last stage of the championship that is its final table took more than fourteen hours for the winner to be determined. A total of 291 poker players took part in the whole event and, thus, a prize pool of HK$27,092,100 was collected. Despite the fact that the South Korean Sunny Jung player did not manage to retain his title, he entered the list of Korea’s richest poker players, winning $4,250,000 at this particular event.
Some famous players, who also took part in the event, were Ami Barer, yet another Canadian, the Asian American Joseph Cheong, and the well-known Russian Vladimir Troyanovskiy. Barer was the winner of this year’s Aussie Millions. He finished third in the ACOP Warm-Up Event and was one of the players with biggest chances of winning the ACOP Main Event, until he was defeated by Jung and sent to fourth position.
Cheong was another noteworthy participant. He took part in the ACOP Super High Roller, where he finished fifth. As for his seventh position at the Main Event, it earned him $1,080,000.
Troyanovskiy was another famous player who participated at the final table. His latest achievements include being part of the European Poker Tour’s final, held in London, as well as sixth position in the UKIPT Main Event. Troyanovskiy was eliminated after his QQ could not stand a chance against Jung’s pocket tens, followed by a third ten. Eventually, he finished fifth and was awarded $1,620,000 of the total prize pool.
Jung had an excellent opportunity to repeat his last year’s achievement, once he eliminated Zuo Wang, sending him to third position. Yet, the odds were in Le Jossec’s favor and his flopping bottom set on the final hand secured his first place and the impressive sum of $6,300,000 – the biggest one he has won so far from a poker tournament. In addition, he was also awarded a SLYDE wrist watch.
Only mere moments after his big win, Gabriel Le Jossec shared with interviewers that he was really tired, but extremely happy. He also said that he was trying not to lose his composure during the fourteen-hour-long final table. And considering the final results, apparently he did quite well.
