katsarovThe third edition of the Battle of Malta has just finished and weird as it may seem, the clock determined who was the lucky winner.

The poker tournament, which took place in Malta, was defined by players, fans and gambling experts as a thrilling event that was definitely worthy of visiting. Poker pros congratulated the organizers of the event and admitted that they have found the atmosphere to be gripping and breathtaking. The event made the headlines and offered tons of excitement to everyone who happened to be at Portomaso Casino during that time.

The tournament was described as an extraordinary event in which the two finalists, Antoan Katsarov and Alan James Brincat played heads up for a pretty long period of time that the owners of Portomaso Casino were thinking about stopping the tournament. However, the event was not supposed to continue on the next day and basically, instead of one champion, the Maltese tournament produced two.

Yet, an award was given to the player who had more chips at 05:00 CET in the morning. Antoan Katsarov was the lucky winner but the authorities determined that both players should share the prizepools, depending on the number of chips they had.

Katsarov was the player who had more chips than his opponent and was supposed to get an award, equal to €140,000. However, he was given €122,750 because he became a winner due to “time out”.

A bit over €107, 000 was the amount Brincat got. It was €18,000 more than the award, he was supposed to get for becoming a runner up.

Defeating 35 tough, skilful competitors was not an easy task for Katsarov because each one of them regarded themselves as winners. Some of the toughest opponents who could eventually pose a difficulty for Katsarov to triumph as a winner were Declan Connolly, Hugo Lemaire, Oskar Szwed, Pär Ebenhardt.

Slowly but surely, those who failed to prove their abilities left the tournament and once there were 12 remaining players, the organizer of the tournament suggested two scenarios for the event to follow. Players opted for the variant of playing until the cut-off time and the one who had more chips left, became the winner.

Gambling experts defined the Battle of Malta as a multicultural event. Italia, Bulgaria, France, Netherlands, Poland and a few more countries had their representatives at the tournament.

Katsarov proved himself to be a poker pro and won the severe competition. The rising star of the poker industry said that this is the second live tournament cash he participated in. The first one was in Aspers Casino, UK where the Bulgarian poker player achieved an overwhelming victory.
