A number of European countries have already reconsidered their gambling rules and regulations and settled down around the idea of implementing changes that would be favorable to both – players and gaming providers.
Poland is one of the counties that have finally decided to change the outdated gambling laws and make them more compatible to the fast development of the gambling industry in Europe by allowing foreign gambling operators provide their products and services to the territory of Poland.
For the time being, one of the most complicated issues, Polish authorities have to deal with, is fighting the negative impact of the grey markets. Regulators have to find the best approach towards limiting their influence and respectively, cope with bad impact they have on country’s annual revenue. According to the latest estimates, Poland loses approximately $180 million annually due to the devastating effect the grey markets have.
Up to now, regulators were reluctant to discuss further details about their idea of changing the existing rules and giving the Polish gambling industry room to grow and become a source of decent income. Poland-based players are legally allowed to participate in sports betting activities only. The number of operators, that have obtained licenses, is too small because of the requirements they have to cover in order to acquire a permission from the Polish authorities.
According to reliable sources, Polish regulators are now prepared to start discussions and implement new amendments that could eventually give green light to the development of various online gambling activities, including poker.
Needless to say, allowing foreign gaming providers to freely operate within Poland would bring a huge annual revenue and boost the local economy.
Admittedly, the gambling rules and regulations in Poland need to be talked over as soon as possible and one of the most tricky issues that needs to be figured out, concerns the new requirements, operators that wish to become available on the regulated gambling market, need to cover in order to be allowed to provide their services to Polish players.
One of the requirements will most probably be related to the domain the foreign gambling operators have to provide their services under. Another delicate matter is determining the amount of taxes foreign operators will be supposed to pay.
Polish regulators are not going to neglect the responsible gaming aspect as well and every provider will be required to establish a responsible gaming policy and publish it onto its website.
Polish gambling experts are still uncertain about the tax increase though. Currently, operators, that have successfully obtained a license, are supposed to pay tax, equal to 12% of the turnover. For now, none of the regulators has officially announced that there will be a tax increase. According to trustworthy sources, such an amendment hasn’t been proposed as well.
