The operators, holding UK licenses, form approximately 15% of the online gambling market on the territory of the country. However, according to the information released, the brick and mortar casinos are the most popular venues and therefore, they generate the highest revenues.

Although traditional gambling activities are more popular, the online gambling providers reported an impressive increase of the gross revenue. It jumped by 22% YOY.

These numbers are believed to rise within the next year because every provider of gambling products and services will be supposed to obtain a license by the Gambling Commission.

Today is the day when the operators that are allowed to provide services in the UK will be eligible for delivering services in several jurisdictions that have been approved by the UK authorities.

According to the report, the turnover generated from online betting reached £25.4 billion. Soccer remained the game that generates the greatest turnover, equal to more than £10 billion. The turnover generated by all the other sports was £7.2 billion.

Tennis accumulated £5.2 billion, horse racing reached £2 billion. However, the revenue of the online casinos decreased by 19%. There was a 10% decline in slot machines. The card and table games revenues fell respectively by 20% and 30%.

Understandably, the rise in the online gambling activities led to a decrease in the revenue of the traditional casino games. The land based casinos had 16% market share, bingo halls, slot arcades and lotteries revenues fell by 10%, 6% and 4%.

Gambling Commission has notified all sports clubs involved in the matters to make sure that their sponsorship is compatible to the new regulations and obtain a license, issued by the UK regulators.

A key figure in UK legislation matters commented that the UK gambling regulations know that sometimes sports clubs need some more time in order to figure out the legislation procedures and obtain a license. Those operators that do not manage to acquire a license will neither be allowed to provide nor to advertise their services on the territory of the UK.
