New Jersey Residents to Decide on Expanding the Gambling Sector

News

StockSlots71414New Jersey authorities are currently discussing the alternative for elections to take place in November 2015 and local residents to decide if they want the gambling sector in New Jersey to be expanded or not.

Yesterday, New York gambling regulators rejected all proposals for establishing a casino venue in Orange County, which makes the gambling industry in the region of North Jersey largely untapped.

New York State Gaming Location Board gave permission to three companies to build casinos in the state. The fact that they did not approved of a casino to be established in Orange County can be regarded as a relief for New Jersey as there will not be any rivalry.

The nearest casino in the neighboring state is located 80 miles away from the Meadowlands where the future North Jersey casino might eventually be established.

However, New Jersey regulators are willing to give state residents the opportunity to decide if they want the gambling sector expanded outside Atlantic City or not.

In order for elections to take place, changes in the constitution need to be made. Currently, the idea for ballot is privately discussed by key figures in the New Jersey affairs.

It is still not clear how many casinos are to be proposed for establishment in the North Jersey area. New Jersey officials have already discussed various alternatives for stabilizing the shaky gambling sector in Atlantic City.

The Meadowlands is considered to be an area that has all the chances to become an appealing gambling hub, especially now, when it will not be necessary to compete with a casino located in Orange County.

What is more, residents who live in Orange County are likely to visit the Meadowlands casino and therefore, help the New Jersey gambling industry boost.

Meadowlands officials also supported the idea of building a casino in the vicinity. The president of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, Jim Kirkos, said that “the tipping point is here” and added that the complex could be a huge help for Atlantic City to figure out the current issues.

New Jersey lawmakers announced that all details, concerning the support North Jersey is going to provide Atlantic City with, are being discussed but they were reluctant to reveal further information. They dropped a hint that a casino bill for North Jersey might be proposed sooner or later.

Despite the fact that the rejection of all Orange County proposals is a huge relief for New Jersey, the state is about to face the tough competition of Pennsylvania and the other New York-based casinos. That is why, authorities are trying to find a way to keep players within the state of New Jersey and that is possible only through elections and expansion of the gambling market outside Atlantic City.
