Baton Rouge Casinos Report Decrease in November Revenue

L'Auberge_Casino_Resort_Lake_Charles_LABaton Rouge’s casinos announced their revenues for November. All three riverboat venues in the city marked a 10.1% drop in overall turnover as compared to the numbers that were posted this time last year.

The casinos generated the amount of $21.7 million in November 2014. By comparison, they earned $24.2 million in November 2013. The fall in last month’s revenue marked the end of a four-month upward trend, during which Baton Rouge’s gambling venues scored record winnings.

L’Auberge, the most recently opened casino in the city, posted the most considerable decrease in revenue. This time last year, the venue generated the amount of $13.4 million. By comparison, it earned $11.7 million this November. In other words, its turnover fell by 12.6%. Yet, the sum L’Auberge generated was still more substantial than the combined revenue of its two rivals – the Belle of Baton Rouge and the Hollywood Casino.

The Belle, which is actually the oldest casino in the city, marked the least significant decrease in turnover. The venue, which is located in downtown Baton Rouge, generated $4.8 million in November. It earned $4.9 million this time last year or a 3.4% increase was marked, in other words.

As for Hollywood Casino, its turnover decreased 9.9%. The gambling venue earned $5.2 million back in November, as compared to $5.8 million in the previous year.

There are fourteen riverboat casinos, four racinos, and one land-based casino (Harrah’s Louisiana Downs) in the state. They all generated the total amount of $195.1 million in November. By comparison, they earned $206.5 million or 5.5% more than this time last year.

Casinos in New Orleans posted a 7.3% drop in overall revenue. The city’s three riverboat venues, the Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, and the slot machines at the Fair Grounds generated $51.4 million in November, compared to last year’s $55.5 million.

Treasure Chest marked an increase in revenue. The casino earned $7.9 million during the previous month, which is 4% more than the numbers posted in November 2013.

Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, on the other hand, posted the most considerable fall in turnover – 13.6%. The land-based venue generated the amount of $26.8 million in November.

The Lake Charles market is the only one in the state that marked a rise in gaming turnover. Its two riverboat casinos and the Delta Downs slots earned $58.6 million. Back in 2013, the amount of $56.9 million was generated. The city is expected to increase its revenue even further as its Golden Nugget venue opened doors for visitors a couple of weeks ago.

Turnover from gambling activities in Shreveport-Bossier City fell by 10%. Its venues brought in the total sum of $56.3 million.

As for Opelousas’ Evangeline Downs slot machines, they generated revenue of $7.1 million, 4.5% less than last year’s number.
